16 years ago I drew the photo from mark harmon’s i 16 years ago I drew the photo from mark harmon’s imdb page bc I was really into NCIS & posted it on Facebook bc I was ✨proud✨ which is very endearing to look back on. I re-drew the same photo tonight with similar materials & what I imagine is roughly the same amount of time & when I was done… I was not proud & did not want to post it lmao. Crazy how desensitised we get. Anyway this is what 16 years of low-level commitment, quitting art completely 3-4 times, and begrudgingly returning every single time looks like… kind of underwhelming! But we move 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really wanted to caption this post “new year, ne I really wanted to caption this post “new year, new me” but really it’s more like “new year, more me than I’ve ever been before” 🏳️‍⚧️ I’m trans, it’s something I’ve been unpacking since about 2021 (also my whole life I guess, but that’s a much longer story). In early 2024 I started the process of medical transition & now I’m starting 2025 almost 8 months on testosterone. Every day I feel more and more comfortable in my body than I ever thought I could. At the end of 2023 I wrote in my diary “the future feels impossible”, and now here I am, living in that impossible future. It’s a scary time to be trans, but I also feel like every single trans person that’s come before me has also felt the same way, it’s never been easy. They were brave, so I can be brave too. I feel so so lucky. Lucky to exist in a time and place where I can access the resources I need to transition, lucky to have friends who are excited about my sideburns coming in and helping me pick out a new name, lucky to have a family that’s supportive, lucky to have been able to see kind and experienced doctors. When I started seriously thinking about all this 2021 I never even considered the overwhelming amount of gratitude I would feel. The nitty gritty: my pronouns are he/they, and I’ve been going by Leo with my friends for a while now, I think this is the name that’s gonna stick. If you made it this far, ty for reading 🩵 it probably goes without saying that you can expect some comics about this at some point, seeing as that seems to be the only way I can process Big Feelings lmao, but for now I just wanted to loop everyone in, consider yourself looped.
